Radiology Illustrated: Gynecologic Imaging is an up-to-date, image-oriented reference in the style of a teaching file that has been designed specifically to be of value in clinical practice. Individual chapters focus on the various imaging techniques, normal variants and congenital anomalies, and the full range of pathology. Each chapter starts with a concise overview, and abundant examples of the imaging findings are then presented. In this second edition, the range and quality of the illustrations have been enhanced, and image quality is excellent throughout. Many schematic drawings have been added to help readers memorize characteristic imaging findings through pattern recognition. The organization of chapters by disease entity will enable readers quickly to find the information they seek. Besides serving as an outstanding aid to differential diagnosis, this book will provide a user-friendly review tool for certification or recertification in radiology.

A dramatic and worldwide increase is occurring in the prevalence of overweight and obesity in women of childbearing age. Obese women carry a significant excess risk of complications during pregnancy, including infertility, spontaneous abortion, congenital malformations, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, fetal macrosomia, and cesarean delivery. Furthermore, maternal obesity predisposes to obesity in the offspring, indicating that the prevention of childhood obesity should already start during pregnancy. This book provides a timely update on the latest knowledge on maternal obesity and pregnancy. A very wide range of issues are covered, including macrosomia and associated shoulder dystocia; the risk of miscarriage, malformations, and complications of pregnancy; the impact of hyperglycemia; clinical management; consequences for anesthesia and ultrasound; impacts on breastfeeding, fertility, and childhood obesity; and pregnancy following gastric surgery. All of the authors are recognized experts in their fields, and the book has been designed to meet the practical needs of obstetricians, gynecologists, internists, and general practitioners.

Breast cancer screening by mammography has proved to be the only means of reducing mortality from this disease by as much as 30-50% worldwide. However, despite the widespread utilization of screening mammography and the constantly growing number of examinations performed every day, the interpretation of mammograms remains largely subjective and is not even always clear. The current terminology is still far from standardized and is often even inappropriate. This is partly because of a lack of complete knowledge of mammographic signs and how to report them in clear, correct language. The core of this book consists of high-quality images that clearly demonstrate normal breast features and pathologic abnormalities, thus providing essential visual support for radiologists interpreting mammograms.

Childbirth Across Cultures explores the childbirth process through globally diverse perspectives to offer a broader context with which to think about birth. It addresses multiple rituals and management models surrounding the labor and birth process from communities across the globe. Labor and birth are biocultural events that are managed in countless ways. We are particularly interested in the notion of power. Who controls the pregnancy and the birth? Is it the hospital, the doctor, or the in-laws, and in which cultures does the mother have the control? These decisions, regarding place of birth, position, who receives the baby and even how the mother may or may not behave during the actual delivery are all part of the different ways that birth is handled. The cultures included range from the Solomon Islands to Africa, Asia and the Americas. Other chapters cover Midwives and other Birth Attendants, Evolution of Birth, Women’s Birth Narratives, and Child Spacing and Breastfeeding. This book will bring together global research conducted by professional anthropologists, midwives and doctors who work closely with the individuals from the cultures they are writing about, offering a unique perspective direct from the cultural group.

Traditionally, women’s health has been synonymous with obstetrics and gynecology. With the exception of Family Medicine physicians who are trained in obstetric and gynecologic issues, most primary care physicians have received little training in reproductive health issues even though they care for women and girls. In recent years, there has been growing recognition that sex differences do exist between the organ systems of women and men, and research about male and female physiologic differences has bolstered the growing body of knowledge about sex differences. Women’s Health: A Handbook for Primary Care presents the most recent changes in current research and provides the reader with an easily accessible reference to common women’s health issues. The topics in this text range from health problems that largely affect only women, like cervical cancer and breast disease, to health problems that present differently in women than in men, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Chapters on polycystic ovary syndrome and oral health issues address health problems that bring together multiple organ systems including reproductive, cardiovascular and dental health. There are also useful chapters not typically found in primary care texts like eating disorders, interpersonal violence and sexual health. Women’s Health: A Handbook for Primary Care is succinct, well organized, and contains easily understood, practical information for the most common health problems seen in women. This volume is a valuable text for anyone who practices primary care medicine.

The second edition of Pelvic Floor Re-education provides a comprehensive overview of the subject, along with other aspects of the clinical assessment and management of pelvic floor disorders. Starting with the latest theories on the anatomy, pathophysiology, and possible causes of pelvic floor damage, the importance of pelvic floor evaluation is looked at in order to determine the type of treatment required. Practical techniques of muscle assessment and investigative methodologies are reviewed and up-to-date information on anatomy and physiology is discussed. An algorithmic approach takes the reader through the options for clinical evaluation and treatment. Several re-education techniques are assessed for pelvic floor dysfunction, including isolated muscle exercise, vagina cones, biofeedback control, and electrical stimulation. This practical book is invaluable reading for all healthcare professionals working with incontinent patients, particularly urogynecologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, and physiotherapists. It also provides a comprehensive but readable source for residents and trainees interested in the scientific and clinical fundamentals of pelvic floor re-education.
